Water Monster
November 07, 2017
I created a fantasy water monster, I used the sculpting tool to make the surface looks bubbly and slimy, like a sea creature. The shading also gives the impression of it being soft and disgusting to touch, which I felt was successful. It's on a simple background with a slightly sculpted floor so that all the attention is on the creature, and because the simplicity of the studio look contrasted with the almost sandlike sculpting and I felt this was particularly interesting.
Cowboy Hat
November 01, 2017
After completing the TV series 'Westworld', I felt compelled to make a cowboy hat. I modelled the hat and then used a tutorial to help me create a highly lifelike leather shader, that would be realistic on a cowboy hat. I particularly love it because it doesn't involve a texture image and is purely created within the 3D software I used; Blender. I also experimented with the lighting and the material of the stand, which is something that I think really brings the image together.
Work Experience, Reuters - Summer 2017
July 31, 2017
During the summer holidays I was able to do a weeks work experience at Thomson Reuters in Canary Wharf. I spent each day with a different section of the company. On the Monday I was with the Wider Image team who organise and edit stories. I did impacts for them for multiple stories and it was an interesting experience as I didn't know that was one way they gathered their audience and the success of each package. On the second day I was with the multimedia team, that coordinate text, TV and photographs so that the packages are complete; I again did impacts for a new project of theirs. On the third day I spent the morning with the UK desk, they were busy editing photographs from recent events such as the funeral of Saffie Roussos. It was very enlightening to see how they quickly edited the images and chose which ones were suitable. In the afternoon I helped the admin team by helping with finance spreadsheets. The next day I was with the TV team and I watched them edit stories and went with them to film an interview in Westminster. On the last day I helped the multimedia desk by writing an article on Ladislav Vlna, a Czech artist who uses fire to create metal portraits. It later was published on Reuters.com and has since appeared in the New York Times, Huffington Global and the Mail Online.
